random musing pt. 2

If I owned a carpet store I'd call it CARPET DIEM.

I have a dream to open up my own diner some day. I'd call it Ed's Diner. I'm already working on the menu. Here are a few items we would prepare:
Apple & cinnamon Milk Shake
Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Apple Pie a la mode, with French vanilla cool whip
Porkchops and pieroges
Big, juicy cheeseburgers with fries on the burger
Bagel sandwiches with potato chips on the sandwich
Salad

I'm listening to Cool Hand Luke right now. The other day I listened to some classic Bob Dylan.

I eat one or two Peanut butter and chocolate chunk Chewy granola bars for breakfast each morning.

I love bottled water.

Elf is a good movie. Classic.

yesterday I cleaned the bathroom. Usually my wife does that, but I was in a cleaning mood. I also reorganized the linen closet and also a cupboard in the kitchen that stores tupperware products.

My favorite number is 5.

U2 / Mercy

Mercy / U2 Version: Studio (6:31) First Appears On: Unknown, 2004
Written By: U2 / Bono Performed By: U2

I was drinking some wine... and it turned to blood
What's the use of religion... if you're any good I know
I'm weedkiller honey... and you're sugar
If you're the prosecution... I get away with murder
If you were ice... I'm water
And with your telescope... I can see further
We're binary code... a one and a zero
You wanted violins... and you got Nero
You're gravity... searching for the ground
You're silence... searching for a sound
Your heart is aching... your heart is my home
It's fascinating... I know I'll never be alone

I'm rippin' the stitches
You got two hands to rub
I'm in the ditches
Of someone else's love

Love is when I lie
Love puts the blue back in my eye
Love will come again
I'll be gone again... again

If you're hunger... baby let me feed it
If your heart is full... baby let me bleed it
And happiness is for... those who don't really need it
You love me... too much
You always loved me... too much

When I was rippin' the stitches
You got two fists to rub
I'm in the ditches
Of someone else's luck

Love is when I lie
Love puts the blue back in my eye
Love has come again
I am gone again

Love's got to be with the weak
Only then love gets a chance to speak
Love will come again
I'll be gone again... again

I... I can't escape myself
I hear you talk
Feeling nothing
I fear nothing
Feel.... I can hear so much
Fear nothing
I feel so much
Fear... nothing

Love has come again
I am gone again
Love is the end of history
The enemy of misery
Love has come again
I am gone again

Love is justice, not charity
Love brings with it a clarity
Love has come again
I'm alive again
Alive...

I am alive, baby I'm born again and again
And again, and again and again and again
Again

According to Blender Magazine (NOV 2004) Mercy (along with Fast Cars) was a casualty of HTDAAB. It was cut because as Bono put it "to much of a good thing is a bad thing."

http://www.blender.com/

Adrian Deevoy of BLENDER wrote:
(sitting with the band as they make the decision...) "After just five minutes, it has been unanimously decided that the track MERCY, a six and a half minute outpouring of U2 at its most unihibitedly U2-ish, must go. Hence a song that any self-respecting band would be proud to call a single becomes what Bono immediately anoints 'the best b-side you've ever heard.'"

Flu Phobia

People are freaking out because of the supposed Flu Shot shortage. The church (at which I work) was supposed to be the host site for a Flu vaccination clinic. But of course, the supply of serum ran out. The phone has been ringing off the hook for weeks. And now, today, the day the shots were supposed to happen, people are lined up outside to get one. Apparently the giant signs reading FLU SHOT CLINIC CANCELLED BY ORDER OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT must be a lie. These paranoid old folks must think it's April 1st because they aren't leaving.

The Health Department has screwed this up royally. They have done very little to spread the word of the cancellations. They are running, I think... Have way to Mexico.

Here's the deal, though... I bet that if the Health Department gave out shots of placebo, these people wouldn't care. It's mind over matter, I feel. Everybody is so paranoid about their supposed need for a flu shot. That's bunk. The shortage has done nothing but incite fear and trepidation in the hearts of every senior citizen in the United States. That is all we need now... A reason to get Seniors more scared. They already fear robots, now this. What's next?

for info on who the government feels deserve a flu shot (that doesn't exist) check this out:

wonders and (dollar) signs

I've often pondered this question: if only we could get out of debt, what would it be like? What would it be like to have money? What would it be like to own our own home?

It's not like we are majorly in debt. But I can't stand not being in control of every dollar made. I was always the kind of person who had every bill paid for on the spot. And I always had enough money in the bank to cover anything that might come up. Things slowly changed before getting married four years ago. I'm O.K. with the hand I've been dealt, but I still can't help but wonder.

I don't gamble and don't play the the lottery but I often wonder what it would be like to come into the possession of money. I am not proud of this. I don't covet, but just want to have enough to provide for my family. We could do so much better with our budget and we are trying, but things cost money. Doctors bills, grocery bills, etc. It doesn't stop and it piles up.

So, I'll continue to wonder but I'll also do all that I can not to let it go to far. I guess the first step is to stick to a budget and begin to save, save, save.

word.

random musing

yeah... so i've been absent in recent days, from my blog. I am still watching my fast food intake. Here is what has been going on in my life since last Monday.
  • George Bush was elected President. I stayed up until 3 AM to find out who won, and the networks were too afraid to call it. Although I am not entirely happy with how Bush has governed, I think He was the better candidate. The Democrats need help right now. Some on the far left seem so out of touch with middle America.
  • A friend of mine told me about the wonders of iTunes and the iTunes player. I am actually liking it much better than Real Player. This is a big step for me as I was a huge fan of Real Player.
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers are kicking butt and taking names! In the last two weeks they have nocked off two undefeated teams: the Patriots and the Eagles. This week they take on the Browns. How long can they keep this up?
  • Yasser Arafat died.
  • I am eagerly anticipating the release of U2's new album HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB and Nirvana's long awaited box set WITH THE LIGHTS OUT. http://www.nirvanabox.com Both drop on Nov. 23rd.
  • I'm loving the show LOST.
  • I'm readying myself for a youth retreat next weekend.
  • My alma mater - the Louisville Leopards won their first high school football playoff game.
  • And finally, my wife and I found out we are expecting baby number two.

WORD!

That has been my life. Thanks for listening.
