(lent) 36

36.

ave. waist size of American men

percent of people who reach behind the front row of milk cartons at the grocery store.

verse in chapter 10 of Hebrews which reads "You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised."
you have to think this kind of reminder would have helped Jesus, the son of God, the Messiah and eventual savior of all mankind as he journeyed towards his call on the cross.

Days it took in November and December of the year 2000 for the Presidential election to be certified in the United States.

verse in Mark chapter 8 where Jesus states "What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?"
there are many things we might 'gain' in this world. expanding waist lines. fresh gallons of milk from the store. Presidential electoral votes. had Jesus not journeyed to the cross, it would be all for naught. if we don't accept, believe, confess and follow the Christ who lived, died and rose again, then we profit nothing. our soul is traded away.

may lent remind us of what it means to be a follower...
Calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, "Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You're not in the driver's seat; I am. Don't run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I'll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to saving yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? What could you ever trade your soul for? *
