(lent) 27

27.

age in which many legendary rock and roll musicians died. Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Richey Edwards, and Kurt Cobain all perished at this young age.

number of concertos composed by Motzart for piano and orchestra.

the number of outs (per side) in a regulation baseball game.

the number of amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

verse in Mark chapter 10 in which Jesus says "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

chapter in the gospel of Matthew which tells the story of the crucifixion of Jesus.
it starts with the Pharisees putting the finishing touches on their plot to kill him. Then a bound Jesus is paraded to Pilate, the Roman governor.
Pilate gives the people a choice of whom he should pardon, Jesus or the criminal Barabbas. The people shout 'Free Barabbas."
What followed was brutal. beaten. whipped. flogged. stripped. humiliated. crucified. killed.
and the hopes and dreams of all of mankind died with him.

but he didn't stay dead.

but that's a story for another day.

he didn't die in vain. he didn't throw it all away. there was a purpose and a meaning and a reason.

may we strive to remember and to connect with that purpose and meaning and reason over this time of lent.
